Эрнст Теодорович Кренкель был радистом многих полярных станций, а также первой дрейфующей станции «Северный полюс» (1937-1938). Э.Т. Кренкель как радист участвовал во многих арктических экспедициях, он впервые осуществил связь на коротких волнах и установил мировой рекорд дальней радиосвязи между Землей Франца-Иосифа и Антарктидой. Э.Т. Кренкель был председателем Правления Всесоюзного общества филателистов. На марке, в центре композиции, - участвовавшие в арктической экспедиции 1931 года дирижабль «Граф Цеппелин» и ледокольный пароход «Малыгин» в бухте Тихой, слева – маршрут арктического рейса дирижабля, справа - портрет Э. Т. Кренкеля, композицию марки дополняет изображение полярной станции, на которой Э.Т. Кренкель работал радистом, а также позывной полярника - RAEM.
Ernst Theodorowitsch Krenkel was a radio operator many polar stations, as well as the first drifting station "North Pole" (1937-1938). E.T. Krenkel as a radio operator involved in many Arctic expeditions, the first time he realized the connection on shortwave and set a world record for long-distance radio communication between Franz Josef Land and Antarctica. E.T. Krenkel was the chairman of the Board of the All-Union Society of Philatelists.
